The documentaries Tanbur and Musicians of the Sacred Mountains, directed by Farid Elhami, have completed their final technical stages after 15 years of filming, research, and musical study, and are now ready for screening.

According to reports, Farid Elhami devoted 15 years of musical and field research to produce the documentary Musicians of the Sacred Mountains (Honiavanan-e Chia Pirouzekan), which explores the history of the Tanbur in the Yarsan tradition, as well as the documentary Tanbur (Tamireh), which focuses on the contemporary history of the instrument. These works were filmed across five provinces of Iran, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and in Turkey, Germany, and Sweden.

Farid Elhami—singer, composer, researcher, and Tanbur player—has also established the Ayaz Tanbur House in Sulaymaniyah, the cultural capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. This time, in the role of director and musical researcher, he has created the documentaries Tanbur and Musicians of the Sacred Mountains dedicated to the Tanbur.

These documentaries, which serve as an encyclopedia of the Tanbur, portray aspects of the lives of masters and narrators of this ancient instrument—many of whom, sadly, are no longer alive. In recent years, all the faithful narrators of Tanbur modes have passed away, and Elhami, in order to preserve their legacy in the history of music, drew upon the knowledge of narrators from various Tanbur traditions in producing these valuable works.
